1200 calorie diet is one of the most popular fast acting diets out there. Results usually come very fast, if diet is followed properly. A diet with 1200 calorie per day is suitable for women that have a basal metabolic rate of about 1500 calories per day.

If you are a woman trying to lose weight fast then 1200 calorie diet is a good pick for your. However you should keep in mind that consuming 1200 calories per day is very low and that in some cases such low calorie intake may lead to health problems along with slowed down metabolism / digestion, which may in fact slow down your weight loss process. Seems illogical but a really low calorie intake per day may actually contribute to weight gain. Why you ask? Because not providing your organism with absolutely minimum of required calories per day may push your body into starvation mode. In starvation mode your body stores almost all energy you provide which will result in weight gain (body will store energy as fat).

So, if your metabolism allows you, you can go for the 1200 calorie diet. You should divide 1200 calories into 5 meals, starting with breakfast early in the morning. Here is an example of daily menu, consisting of about 1200 calories.

  • Breakfast juice of two oranges, low fat yoghurt and 3 tablespoons of muesli.
  • Morning snack a cup of cooked rice,
  • Lunch 180 g of white fish, baked without fat, 150 g of green beans, pastries or whole wheat bun.
  • Afternoon snack 1 apple,
  • Dinner 70 g of pasta with tomato sauce and 1 hard-boiled egg.

1200 calorie Diet

How do you know that diet is working? Simple. Measure your body weight every day at the same time – preferably in the morning, right after you wake up. With 1200 calorie diet you should be able to lose about 1 to 2 kilograms of body weight (body fat) per month. Depending on what you goal is (getting in shape, staying in shape, building muscle, building endurance) you should plan you diet accordingly. 1200 calorie diet is mostly useful for getting in shape / weight loss and is not so much effective when you are trying to build some muscle.
