With the increased popularity in CBD and hemp products as of late, it is important to note that CBD oil and hemp oil are not the same things.

Although they are used interchangeably in day-to-day language, CBD oil, and hemp oil are two completely different products each with its own benefits. When it comes to your pooch, the more common option is CBD oil for pets. Although hemp oil has also been proven to have great benefits for your pup.

Let’s take a look at the difference between hemp and CBD oil and the benefits they can offer your dogs:

What is the difference between hemp and CBD oil?

Before we dig deeper into the benefits for dogs, let’s clarify what the difference is between these two oils. While both CBD and hemp come from the same plant, they are completely different with different uses and benefits. CBD comes from the plant’s stalk, buds, and leaves while hemp is derived from the seeds.

In terms of use, CBD is more often used as an alternative, therapeutic remedy to manage pain and inflammation, reduce anxiety, and curb seizures. Hemp, on the other hand, is more of a nutritional supplement with a very low concentration of CBD.

It can be classed as a superfood for its nutritional benefits. Hemp contains antioxidants, fatty acids, and phospholipids, which are mainly used in food products and skincare products.

CBD oil for your dog

CBD oil is becoming a popular remedy for many conditions in both humans and their pets. Pet owners are using CBD in the form of dog treats for their dogs nowadays. While research is still underway to determine all the benefits and interactions of CBD in dogs, many dog owners are making use of this natural remedy to help the pooches with pain relief, reducing stress and anxiety, and minimizing seizures.

Other proven benefits that CBD oil has been found to have in dogs include anti-inflammatory effects to reduce the pain and swelling of arthritis and increasing their appetite to entice them to eat when they have a hard time with eating.

CBD oil has also been used in dogs with cancer to fight the negative symptoms associated with the disease.

Hemp oil for your dog

Similar to CBD oil, hemp oil has a myriad of benefits for your dog. Thanks to GLA (Gamma-Linolenic Acid) that is found in hemp, it can help your pup with reducing skin allergies, managing their weight, managing the pain and inflammation caused by arthritis as well as offering cancer-fighting properties.

Hemp oil is also known for containing Omega-3 and -6 fatty acids which are good for the body as they help to fight inflammation. Adding hemp oil to your pup’s daily routine is good for their overall health. It helps by reducing the inflammation that can lead to other conditions such as arthritis, allergies, diabetes, heart, liver, and kidney disease, and cancer.

Vitamins A and E are also found in hemp oil, which can give your dog’s immune system a boost. Plus, they are also good for cognitive function, eyes, heart, and skin.

The phospholipids that hemp offers are also great for your dog as it has been proven to reduce inflammation and pain, boost immune function, lower the risk of cardiovascular disease, repair liver damage, improve cognition and reduce gastric acid.

Which oil is better for your dog?

Both CBD oil and hemp oil are beneficial to your dog’s health. It just depends on your pup’s needs and if they suffer from any medical condition which oil would be best suited. Both CBD and hemp do not contain the psychoactive ingredient THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), which is toxic to dogs.

However, you should always be sure that the CBD oil you purchase is completely free of THC as some CBD oils contain trace amounts. Hemp oil, on the other hand, while it contains small amounts of CBD, it does not contain any THC. This means that your pupper won’t experience the same high that you feel when smoking marijuana.

Neither CBD oil nor hemp oil can truly be considered better for your dog since each carries its own benefits and conditions that it is best to remedy. In general, CBD oil is used more commonly to treat medical conditions, while hemp oil is best used as a health supplement.
